New Primary Curriculum

Ireland’s new Primary Curriculum Framework places the child at the centre of learning and aims to help every child thrive, develop confidence, and reach their full potential.

Key Features

Child-centred learning
Children are active participants in their learning, supported by skilled teachers and positive school relationships.

Eight guiding principles
Learning is shaped by strong relationships, inclusive practices, engaging teaching, meaningful assessment, and strong partnerships with families.

Seven key competencies
Children develop important life skills such as being creative, communicating well, using digital technology responsibly, staying well, thinking mathematically, learning actively, and being responsible citizens.

Five curriculum areas
Learning is organised into:

  • Language
  • STEM Education
  • Wellbeing
  • Arts Education
  • Social & Environmental Education

Play, integration, and wellbeing
Play and integrated learning are central, especially in younger classes. Wellbeing and inclusion are core priorities across all learning.

What this means for our school

The new framework supports engaging, flexible learning that develops the whole child – academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively. It strengthens partnerships with parents and ensures every child feels valued, supported, and included.
